This set of 8 PICT files contains maps of the Escape Velocity (version 1.0.2) galaxy, depicting different types of data (described below).
How to print (important!)
The map uses only the Helvetica font but goes down to 6 point, so it doesn’t look good on screen. You should print it on a printer with at least 300 dpi resolution (I assume no one still uses ImageWriter IIs). Color printing is very helpful to distinguish star system governments.
To print the map on one letter-size page, set the Page Setup… to Landscape mode (sideways) and the reduction to about 75%.
Corrections and improvements from EV Atlas 1.0.2 (01 Jul 1996)
Farazon was previously misspelled.
Spaceport bar at Lethe was omitted on the previous version.
Special items are now referenced by function, not tech level.
Three tiers of prices are now shown: normal, criminal (prices are worse when the planet hates you), and dominant (prices are better when you’re the overlord).
Features common to all maps
Star system names include the names of the objects in the system, in order (e.g., in the Propus system, New Scotland is listed second so type 2 to select it for landing or hailing).
Names of objects are grayed out if you can’t land on them. Note that there are objects without facilities on which you can land; these still have names in black.
Star system coordinates were taken from the EV Data 1.0.2 file and the background is white for printing.
Features - Political Map (1 map)
Star system symbols (usually just a colored circle) show the controlling government.
Features - Spaceport Facilities (1 map)
The symbols show the type of facilities available in each star system, although they do not show facilities down to the planet/station level in multi-planet/station star systems.
The absence of a symbol (appearing as a hollow small circle) indicates no facilities in the star system.
Facilities listed are basic facilities (refueling and mission computer), outfitters (ship upgrades), and spaceport bars (special missions and escorts).
The tech level of outfitters are indicated as numbers inside the symbol.
The tech level of outfitters’ items is shown in the margins; ammunition items are shown in bold in the table (and you will need ammo than you did in 1.0.1).
The symbol’s color indicates the controlling government.
Features - Commodity Prices (6 maps)
Each map shows the price of one of the basic commodities (food, industrial, medical, luxury goods, metal, and equipment).
The symbol size shows the commodity’s price (low, medium, high), although they do not show which planet/station sells the commodity in multi-planet/station star systems.
The absence of a symbol (appearing as a hollow small circle) indicates that the commodity is not sold in the star system.
The symbol’s color indicates the controlling government.
Known minor problems/errors
Some printers will not center the numbers properly in the symbols on the Spaceport Facilities map.
The Serpens Nebula and Trugati Asteroid Belt cover approximately the correct area but don’t
look nearly as nice as they do on the game map.
Lethe and Aries are shown as independent systems; no special symbols are used for them, or to denote their hostile status towards each other.
